Hotel Britania, one of the boutique hotels from the Heritage Lisbon Hotels brand, won the Condé Nast Johansens Annual Awards for Excellence, in the category of Most Outstanding Service.
This award reveals Hotel Britania’s outstanding service quality, the only hotel in Portugal that was awarded.
According to Condé Nast Johansens Annual Awards for Excellence, Hotel Britania provides “A home-from-home ambience, with cosy lounges. You’ll find service outstanding, and relaxing, spacious bedrooms that are so delightful.”
Hotel Britania was represented by Filipa Alves de Sousa, which stated: “This award reveals the quality of a harmonious space and service offered by Hotel Britania”.
This award was based on responses from guest nomination forms, guest survey reports, and the Condé Nast Johansens’ regional inspector reports drawn from the hotels featured in their most recent guides. In this category there are three more hotels nominated, two are Italian and one is French. Condé Nast Johansens is the most complete illustrated guide for the best leisure and business units of Great Britain, Europe and North America. At the same time, Hotel Britania was recognized by the Guardian as one of the four “best preserved Art Deco Hotel” in all Europe (www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/nov/06/art-deco-hotel-devon-cannes-lisbon-prague). All these recognitions place the Hotel as a unique space, full of charm.
Dating from the 1940’s and designed by the famous Portuguese modernist architect Cassiano Branco, the Hotel Britania is the only hotel of that period to have survived intact. The original Art Deco ambiance has been restored and the hotel is now classified as a Lisbon’s historic building. Inaugurated during war, its past is filled with stories. Diplomats, foreigners, politicians and spies would gather there with high patent names from finance, artists and intellectuals. Stage for many aroused nights of scandals and conspiracy, the parties and the fine suppers served at dawn in the hotels terraces became famous during the forties in the quiet city of Lisbon.
